From the foreword "The author stands corrected and the present volume presents the original text with such corrections as have been made and verified. There have also been added notes on a comprehensive economic survey of Hollywood just completed by the University of Southern California Bureau of Business Research." Palmer was a New York-born, Colombia University-trained "physician who served as Hollywood's City Health Officer in 1906." He became president of the Hollywood National Bank and Citizens Savings Bank in Hollywood. In addition to professional organizations, Palmer was a member of the Masons, University Club, and Catalina Island's Tuna Club.
